Conversion charts are useful as a starting point but become risky when treated like mathematical formulas. Fashion does not have one universal international size.
Why the numbers differ
Italian sizes are often numerically higher than their EU equivalents, while UK and US systems use other scales. Some brands also use proprietary sizing or different grading across lines.
Even apparently equivalent labels can differ in ease, hip shape, upper-arm width and length.
Only an indicative conversion
As a starting reference, IT 50 is often associated roughly with EU 46, UK 18 and US 14. The relationship is never guaranteed.

The three basic measurements
Bust, waist and hips are the minimum for dresses and tops. For trousers, add inseam and rise; for jackets, consider upper arm and shoulders; for bras, measure underbust and full bust.
- Do not pull the tape tight.
- Repeat each measurement twice.
- Date your measurements; bodies change and that is normal.
When garment measurements are available
Garment measurements can be very useful when compared with a piece you already own. Check whether a value is flat or the full circumference.
