Plus-size swimwear: tops and bottoms do not need the same size

The right swimwear starts with use and proportions, not a rule about covering more.

Swimwear needs to stay secure in and out of water, dry reasonably and allow movement. More coverage does not automatically mean more support.

Separates and mix-and-match sizing

When bust and hips need different sizes, separately sold bikini pieces are often more precise. Look for bra-sized tops when specific support is required.

Torso length

In one-piece swimsuits, shoulder-to-crotch length is decisive. A suit that is too short pulls at the shoulders and rides up; one that is too long folds and loses stability.

Real support

Underwire, underbust bands, structured cups, adjustable straps and back closures all work differently. Removable pads alone do not equal support.

Fabric and use

For frequent swimming, check chlorine resistance. For holidays, consider drying time, wet transparency and seam strength. Rinse after use.

Choose swimwear for what you want to do in it: swim, sunbathe, play, walk or all of these.
