Plus-size second hand: how to search rare sizes without buying blind

In second hand, actual measurements matter more than the label.

Second hand can expand choice dramatically, especially for closed brands, past collections and hard-to-find sizes. It also requires more precise questions than buying new.

Ask for garment measurements

Request pit-to-pit width, waist, hips, length, thigh and rise as relevant. Clarify whether measurements are taken flat and whether stretch fabric is relaxed or pulled.

Assess wear that changes fit

Loose elastic, stretched denim, felted knitwear and distorted fabric can change fit. Ask for images of cuffs, inner thighs, zips, seams and friction points.

Search across size systems

Try Italian, EU, UK, US and alpha sizes, plus the exact brand name. Many sellers enter only the size printed on the label.

Compare price and return options

A bargain is not useful when returns are impossible and measurements are missing. Also consider cleaning, repairs and authentication for premium pieces.

Save the measurements of clothes that already fit you; they become your personal chart for every second-hand purchase.
